Renata earned her bachelor’s degree in biotechnology engineering at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico. During her internship at a national health institute in Mexico City, she studied cellular models and biomarkers of myotonic dystrophy type 1 and spinocerebellar ataxia type 7. She then completed a master’s in neuroscience at the Université de Montréal in Di Polo’s lab, focusing on a glaucoma treatment targeting mitochondrial dysfunction. Now, Renata has started her PhD at McGill University, where she is characterizing deep grey and white matter lesions and investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying their progression in multiple sclerosis.
