Area of research:

Dr. Quintero’s research focuses on retinal neurobiology, particularly the interactions between glia, vascular cells, and neurons. His work investigates the mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), a major cause of axonal and neuronal degeneration in glaucoma. He aims to develop pharmacological and genetic strategies to improve mitochondrial health, restore metabolic balance, and enhance RGC resilience—ultimately advancing neuroprotective and regenerative therapies for glaucoma and other optic neuropathies.
