Area of research:
Jorge is focused on the role of microglia, the resident immune cells in CNS, in glaucoma. He is investigating how these cells communicate with other cell types, including neurons, vascular cells and glial cells, when the disease is present. His goal is uncovering how to manipulate this cellular signaling communication to reestablish homeostasis, ultimately protecting vulnerable RGCs and preventing vision loss.
