Dr. Nicolás A. Belforte is an accomplished neuroscientist specializing in retinal neurobiology and the molecular mechanisms underlying glaucoma and optic
neuropathies. He earned his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, where he investigated novel therapeutic strategies for glaucoma. After completing his doctoral studies, he joined Dr. Adriana Di Polo’s laboratory at the University of Montreal Hospital Research Center (CRCHUM), where his postdoctoral and research work has focused on neuroprotection, neuroinflammation, and energy metabolism in the visual system. Dr. Belforte has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and his research has been recognized with multiple national and international awards, including fellowships from FRQS and CONICET, and travel and presentation awards from ARVO, IBRO, and the Society for Neuroscience. His career reflects a sustained commitment to advancing translational neuroscience and developing therapeutic approaches to preserve vision in neurodegenerative diseases.
